Frequently Asked Questions
You are welcome to contact me with your questions and concerns.
What Services Do You Offer?
I specialize in working with parents who are experiencing conflict, such as:
- Parents who are going through separation and divorce and need to develop a parenting plan;
- Parents who are struggling to balance their different parenting styles;
- Parents who are struggling to raise a child who needs extra resources; and
- Parents who need help talking to their teen.
What Sets Solara Mediation Apart From Other Lawyers or Mediators?
Within the field of family mediation, I specialize in supporting parents who are parenting during difficult times in their life. My mediation foundation is built upon a specialized knowledge base in parenting, guided communication, child development, social emotional learning, coaching and child advocacy.
I know how hard it is to be a parent and the hardships children face, too. And, I know that the best solutions created are those made by informed and supported parents who know what their unique family needs are and come together to figure out their own best solution.
Why Are Your Services Offered Online?
I offer my mediation services online because they provide the most benefit to busy parents who are dealing with enough stress.
Online sessions are flexible, eliminate travel time and parking fees, reduce cost of service, and allow you to attend from a safe and comfortable location of your choice.
How Long is Each Mediation Session?
Sessions are offered in three different ways:
- One-hour sessions
- Half-day sessions (3 hours)
- Full-day sessions (7 hours, including a 1-hour lunch break)
We can talk about how to create a schedule of mediation sessions that will best suit your needs and your timeline.
How Much Do You Charge for Your Services?
My fees are $250/hr, including GST.
Generally, families spend 4 to 16 hours in mediation, which means that you can expect to spend between $1000 to $4000.
When families are going through separation and divorce, it is expected that mediation fees will be divided equally between parents.
How Long Will Mediation Take?
This depends on how many issues you decide to address and how transparent and honest each of you is in your mediation sessions. On average, families can expect 4 to 16 hours to be spent reaching agreements in mediation.
How you schedule your sessions is flexible. You can choose one hourly session at a time, multiple hours at a time, or a full day.
Will you mediate the financial side of our separation and divorce?
While I do not specialize in full financial mediation, I do work with another mediator who provides this service. She is willing to join your mediation timeline and work with you on the financial side of separation and divorce.
What are Parenting Plans?
A parenting plan is a detailed document that outlines how parents who live apart will care for and raise their children. These plans can be drafted into a Parenting Agreement and included in your separation or divorce application. These plans typically include:
- Parenting Time:
Establishes when and how your children will spend time with each of their parents. - Decision-Making:
Sets clear guidelines for how important decisions will be made for your children. - Communication:
Creates a roadmap for how communication will occur between you in your new relationship as co-parents. - Flexibility:
Reflects that families grow and change and your parenting plan will need to adapt accordingly.
